Add graphical smileys
After test-drive switch from a Skype team-chat to Flowdock, I really miss the animated smileys.
A regular ":D" is sooooo boring when compared with the animated smiley in Skype.
In the new app, we support emoji. Check out available emoticons at http://www.emoji-cheat-sheet.com/

I need smileys, it sounds stupid but I do.

You could make them optional... And by default have them turned off?

our team loves the skype emoticons!! This weighs into our decision here. Why not support both??

No way. Text smilies is one of the key reasons we chose Flowdock over Hipchat or others.

I'd like to use flowdock, but my company won't switch until you have emoticons, custom ones too like hipchat.

another vote-down. if it is implemented, please allow them to be disabled both per-user and per-flow. emoticons have functioned quite well for so long precisely because they are ascii text. seamless upgrading of monochrome text to colored images breaks the normal flow of text. it's quite distracting at worst and clever/cute at best.

A vote-down from me too. A whole page of graphical smilies, as can happen with a team, is annoying! Text smilies ftw! ;)

I support this idea, but only if you make sure that code / pasted text (with a leading tab) does not get smileys. Otherwise when we try to type in code, it just gets messy.

Several members of our team have mentioned this too, in particular: "I can't dance any more!" -- referring to the dancing man emoticon in skype.
That being said, I do find emoticons in skype somewhat annoying - I think it's specifically that they're animated. Maybe provide static emoticons, or emoticons that only animate one cycle then stop (I think you can set GIF89a images to work that way?) - I wouldn't want endlessly animated emoticons as they are too distracting.
