  i would agree with all below, very much with Guy Frasier though:

  I have a lot of people in my flows, and moving the portrait badges around when their "is typing" message appears would make the user bar a mess. i think a position closer to the chat composition area would make sense, as well as the user-configurable setting idea. it is my experience too that showing when you are typing makes group conversations flow differently, and not in a positive way.

  I agree with Henrik - this information is not something that I would necessarily like to reveal to my team. Like him, I feel the decision should be left to the user, and hence the functionality should be configurable on a per-user basis.

  I feel it's useful for one-to-one conversations, but not for a team environment, in my case.

  This is the biggest problem I have with Flowdock at the moment. The chatting interface feels incomplete without it.

  Aside from general stability improvements, this would be the big win from my point of view, over Campfire.

  We are using Flowdock for scrums, after switching from Campfire. One of our pet peeves with Campfire was that we couldn't see when somebody was typing a long response; this is a big problem when dealing with offshore teams, and you can't just ask them if they are replying.

  This feature would be, among others, the most useful thing that could be added to Flowdock for us at the moment.

  If you implement this, please let it be configurable and let the default be so that it is not shown. This affects the behavior how people write, and not in a positive way in my experience.

  I'd prefer something like this to be near the area where you type in messages, rather than next to the profile pics. Something similar to how skype shows when someone is typing. At the same time, the background colour of the profile pics (if they are currently visible) could change to indicate typing in a manner similar to Adium contact list. But for me the main place I want to see the visual feedback is near the message entry box.

  Yes !!! I am planning to do my scrum meetings in that tool, and that's priority #1 for me !
