Add private messages
Syntax could be "@user how is it going?" or different tabs for private chats...
1-on-1 messages are now supported in Flowdock!
To restart a trial period you can either sign up again or log in and visit https://www.flowdock.com/trials to get an extension.

Nice add. Small tweak would be nice. When you write /query User, it would be nice to be able to add already the fist message like /query User Hi!

Can't leave Skype, Google Talk or HipChat until this is implemented. Biggest roadblock in my company fully adopting this service.

Jyri Tuulos,
This is not a high priority? It has 234 votes, so obviously the users want it. Priorities should be dictated by what users are saying they need, not what the company thinks users need.

Ricardo: We've been working on the refactoring for a while now. I'm expecting this to be available for beta testers in a month, and to everyone in two months.

This is a must have to make our team adopt flowdock. How is it going?
I think the private talk should be in a separate tab cause it be kind of confusing all on the same flow with other peoples conversation in the middle of a private talk.

Please add private messages. I decided to switch from another service when I saw Flowdock had added IRC support, but I had no idea that this critical feature was missing. "Side chats" would also be great.
It's 2012, if you're urging us to leave IRC, couldn't you at least provide a similar level of functionality?

I think that there's a use case for "side chats" rather than private chats. While all info in the flow should be public it need not demain equal attention from everyone.
Basically rather than "private" I think an indication that a conversation is "not relevant to others" would be very helpful for reducing the noise in the chat.
I've written up more of this idea in http://flowdock.uservoice.com/forums/36827-general/suggestions/2556612-add-a-side-chat-a-non-private-private-chat-

Flowdock might be all about sharing stuff among team members, but we also see a critical value proposition in efficiency. If all of our development efforts are nicely bundled into the influx and we can chat about them as a team, it REALLY sucks to have to switch back and forth between Flowdock and other chat services for 1-1 chats. It also takes up a ton more real estate on the screen to have both Flowdock Fluid App and Skype open at the same time....You should definitely add private messages.

Not sure if I like this or not, I want "private" as in speak with only one person, and do not spam my conversion with him to all others but it should be possible for others to view if they want to, like a "mini-flow"... should absolutely be searchable.

We have two "team leaders" and lots of members. Team leaders often need to have a private chat. Currently we have to do this via Skype or IRC, but would be cool if we could have all our team-related conversations in Flowdock where they are easily searched afterwards.

I dislike the whole syntax idea, but I'd like to just be able to click the avatar of someone and get a nice little popout where I can write a private message.
Currently I have to ask teammembers to "get on skype" whenever I want to discuss something confidential and it's just a bit insulting to everyone else in the channel. Private messages would simply give me a much smoother workflow.

We use other IM tools for private or ad-hoc chats so wouldn't really want to see this feature in FlowDock.
Yammer has a private chat feature and in practice it's a PITA to use as it does't fit with that sort of tool so I doubt it will fit with FlowDock (which is similar but better than Yammer).

I don't care whether or not you implement this, but please don't use the @user syntax for it. I use "@user, how's it going" for public messages all the time.

@User tags are now supported and can either be written in chat or added to existing messages. Those messages won't become private though. Read more at http://blog.nodeta.fi/2010/05/24/user-highlights-and-the-new-dashboard/
Flowdock is all about sharing the information with the whole team, so private messages aren't a high priority feature for us.

While I'd like this as well, please don't use the @user syntax for that, as I'd want that just for public replies and generally mentioning a user in the flow. Some other syntax for private messages would be better. Possibly IRC style /msg user.

I use #@user at the moment - isn't private - but is kinda useful at the mo..
